The present edition has undergone root and branch transformation: the course was
reconsidered in terms of internationally accepted recommendations for RA writing and
rearranged accordingly. Now all units correspond to RA sections including the newly
added unit Discussion which figures among RA structural elements. In the current
course this unit can be treated as optional, as a source of background information, since
it is not always seen as a separate section; neither it is included in projects. All blocks
of templates have new structure and contents largely following the logic of RA sections.
These innovations brought about the necessity to change the corresponding tasks and
referential materials. As to the latter, six new appendices were added, mainly to improve
the tasks for editing and drafting. Overall, the course proves helpful for consolidating
learners’ understanding of the conventions of written and spoken academic English and
organising their projects or RAs along the internationally accepted lines.
