Студенческая модель ООН как формат продуктивной образовательной технологии обучения иностранным языкам в профессиональных целях
This article deals with the use of Academic Model United Nations as product-based educational technique in professionoriented English language teaching. The author defines the notions of product-based learning, professional intercultural communicative competence and Model United Nations; emphasizes the product-based nature of profession oriented language learning and highlights the importance of using product-based educational techniques in LSP. Academic Model United Nations is compared to an “educational laboratory” that engages students in cognitive, research, creative and productive activities, as well as teaches them to use English as a tool of overcoming problem-based tasks. The article describes an experiment of implementing Model UN in the educational process that was conducted in 2017 with participation of HSE professors, Bachelor students majoring in Linguistics (educational programme “Foreign Languages and Cross-cultural Communication”). The work includes the stages of implementing Academic Model UN in the educational process, as well as analyses a number of difficulties that may occur and suggests several ways of solving these difficulties. The author provides recommendations for formulating instructions and creating study guides for Model UN delegates. The work also suggests criteria of participants’ written and spoken speech assessment and evaluating the effectiveness of using the Model UN for developing and assessing students’ communicative competence. The results of the research proved that Academic Model UН is an effective tool of developing and assessing students’ language skills that are crucial for their academic and prospective professional work. As product-based educational technique, Model UN best serves to develop professional intercultural communicative competence of the future specialists.
