On the initiative and with the participation of the Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) a round table «Diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and Russia» was held at the Institute for African Studies RAS. Institute staff members and members of other scientific and educational institutions, Russian and Ethiopian diplomats, representatives of state, public and commercial organizations have attended the event. The paper provides the review of actual issues of the Ethiopia-Russia relations discussed during the meeting.

The article dwells on two major international events held in Africa in the first half of 2012 - that is the World Economic Forum on Africa held in Addis Ababa (May 2012) and the first New York Forum-Africa held in Libreville (June 2012). These two international forums attracted participants not only from African countries, but also from other regions of the world. They were attended by hundreds of statesmen and public figure, political scientists, economists, financiers and experts from dozens of countries. They discussed the problems of the present and the future of Africa, its place and role in modern processes taking place in the global world.
Somali factor plays a significant role in domestic and foreign policy of Ethiopia, providing a significant impact on the situation in the Horn of Africa and East Africa as a whole. The author examines key problems faced by the central government in Addis Ababa in Ogaden, populated predominantly by Somalis. For a long time the territory of Somali regional state is a hotbed of tension in Ethiopia itself and factor feeding the conflict relations between Addis Ababa and neighboring Somalia.
