Другое время, другое место, другие мы. Ретроспективный взгляд на сенситивность тюремных исследований
This article explores the sensitive aspects of communication between researchers and informants, using a retrospective analysis of data from the final phase of a project on the historical and geographical factors in contemporary prison systems that influence the identities and strategies of ethnic minority prisoners. Attention is paid to the ethical dilemmas and emotional tension encountered during interviews with women serving their sentences in one of Russia's correctional centers. A key element of the analysis is the emphasis on the place/space and time of fieldwork, which provide context for the study of inmates' prison histories and survival strategies. A retrospective analysis of selected interviews revealed several strategies for overcoming the emotional tension of these conversations: from condemnation to increased support, from neutralizing one's own emotions to full, sometimes inappropriate, engagement. These discussions are complemented by a critical look at the ethical dilemmas and impasses faced by sociologists in this highly complex field.
