The article is dedicated to the research of the possibility of using the Theory of Competitive Advantages of Nations in explaining the different level of countries’ competitiveness in sectors that emerged after the theory had been developed. The author conducted a detailed analysis of four determinants and their competitive advantages for an American and European e-commerce companies. The production factors, characteristics of domestic demand, related and supporting industries as well as instruments of organizing and managing e-commerce business used by the companies of these countries were explored. The conducted research lets confirm a universal character of M. Porter’s theory and its relevance in analysis of modern sectors of world economy
