Spain is one of the states of the European Union most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Once at the epicenter of the disease, Spain and Italy were forced to close the borders of the first European countries. In addition, it was these states that for a long time were leading in terms of the number of cases and the death rate. As a result of this situation, Spain’s economic performance declined significantly, which was not observed even during the economic crisis of 2008-2009. The economic measures taken by the government, although relevant, were not enough to eliminate the consequences of the pandemic, since many indicators, although increasing compared to 2020, are still not at the «pre-coronavirus» level. It is also worth considering how the economic policy of the European Union, of which Spain is a member, contributes to the economic development of the state.
