With the expansion of the scope and growing importance of foresight research, the role of various participants in the relevant projects and users of their results—stakeholders or interested parties—is simultaneously increasing. Whereas previously a significant proportion of foresight projects were carried out with the involvement of professional experts, in many recent studies the range of participants is becoming more diverse, including representatives of the public and other potential beneficiaries. This diversification of participants makes it possible to take into account the interests of all parties as much as possible and expand the possibilities of using research without compromising its quality (the high role of experts in projects remains). The article offers a systematic description of the stakeholder analysis method, explores the theory and best practices of using this approach, examines the place and role of various stakeholders in foresight projects, evaluates the main problems, opportunities and recommendations for using the method, including in conjunction with other Foresight methods.
