The study of the vocabulary of modern media is extremely important for a detailed description of the state of the Russian language and a thorough study of the processes taking place in it. This article analyses the functioning and semantic classification of several of the most illustrative examples of the use of gazetteers selected from representative print media — such as Vedomosti, Izvestia, Kommersant, RBC, Rossiyskaya Gazeta, and also presented in the Main and Newspaper Corpuses of the National Corpus of the Russian Language. The assessment of linguistic units was carried out by the frequency of their representation in the corpus of texts collected in the RLNC databases, by the number of texts where they were used, by the time of their occurrence and by the nature of the distribution of various functional styles of the Russian language over the texts. It is concluded that newspaper ‘gazetizm' in modern Russian media is used not only for operational information, but also for the formation of public opinion. In this regard, ‘gazetizm' makes it possible to neutralize information about the personal responsibility of a person, express the modality of the inevitability of an event, and euphemistically describe certain events or actions. The following semantic groups were also identified: “action”, “document” and “metaphorical place”, to which the analysed lexical units were allocated.
