It is showed the relevance and debatability of the issue of the formation of a set of professional com- petencies of the individual, spiritual and moral qualities, and creativity. An interdisciplinary approach to the history of entrepreneurship is used. The authors explore the totality of the processes of development of the administrative and economic territory, the structural and functional characteristics of the national econ- omy, culture, as well as the biography and deeds of a particular person who takes on industrial and commercial risks, has competencies. The reasons and prerequisites for the development of entrepreneurship in the chemi- cal industry are considered. It is shown that entrepreneurial activity in Russia in the second half of he XIX century proceeded on the one hand against the background of the development of science and industry, and on the other – against the background of the social reorganization of society.
