“Un popolo di migratori, di sognatori, di adoratori dell’infinito”: Rusia en los ensayos políticos tempranos de Curzio Malaparte (1921-1925)
The article analyses Curzio Malaparte's political essays published in the 1921-1925 period, tracing Russia's presence in them. It attempts to demonstrate that Russia and the Russian people were a frequent point of reference for Malaparte, and that motifs taken from the history of this nation were employed by the author in his analysis of the situation in Italy and Europe. It is argued that his interest in Russia was not limited to the Revolution, and that references and allusions to that country can be found not only in those works published in the immediate post-war period, when he held positions sympathetic to Bolshevism, but also in those published after joining the Fascist movement, in which Russia still played an important role. Finally, it tries to trace the origins of his interest in this nation, his contacts with émigrés in the aftermath of the Great War, as well as the potential influence that Russian intellectuals could have had in the development of his ideas.
