Developing Reading Skills in Chinese as L2 at a Non-Linguistic University

This scientific paper addresses the growing demand for learning the Chinese language, particularly in Russia, due to China's economic and cultural influence. Non-linguistic universities have started offering courses in Chinese, but time is a limiting factor, and the lack of graded literature and resources is a challenge. Chinese is a complex language with pictorial characters, which makes learning to read particularly challenging. Additionally, students need to learn pinyin and Palladius. The paper highlights the challenges faced by teachers of Chinese at nonlinguistic universities and the need for well-designed educational resources to satisfy students' needs in developing suitable linguistic competencies.
