The article retrospectively examines the development of the concept of a new international economic order (NIEO). The role in the formulation of this topic, which has been played since the 1960s by the "Group of 77", specialized UN agencies, including UNCTAD, the Commission of the South and other international structures, is noted. The author shares information on how the collective West in the 1980s-1990s managed to transfer the discussion of the NIEO issues into the  framework of problems of management efficiency, etc. The main directions for the formation of a modern international system of trade and economic relations are indicated, including such issues as the development of a payment infrastructure independent of Western countries, the rejection of sanctions policy, the creation of transport corridors, including North-South. The prerequisites and opportunities for creating conditions for disclosure of the potential of Russia in the creation of a new world order in the field of economy, trade, and finance are noted.
