The report will review the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Persons in Connection with the Automated Processing of Personal Data, adopted in 1981, analyze its main provisions, and assess its impact on the development of russian and international legislation on the protection of personal data. The continuity of the Convention, the Federal law «On Personal Data» and the EU Regulation on the Protection of Personal Data (GDPR) will be noted, and the features and prospects of international legal regulation of relations occurring in cyberspace will be highlighted. New initiatives in the field of legal regulation of personal data turnover in the EU countries and the prospects of their impact on russian IT-companies will also be considered.
