The article attempts to prove, based on materials from the Ogonyok magazine of the 1960s and
1970s, that the emergence and development of garage culture in the USSR is associated with the beginning of
the Thaw changes. In addition, garages in general radically change the everyday life and private sphere of
Soviet citizens, turning them into the complete opposite of the official state ideology.
