This study dedicated to the problems of formation the university ethics in Russia during the Great Reforms era. The radical changes that took place at the Russian university during the period were accompanied by the search for new ethical agreements. The very fact of the possibility of a special university morality was not obvious to the par- ticipants of the events. It was closely related to another question – are universities open educational institutions, or they are close corporation? In the first case, the presence of spe- cific university ethics is not mandatory, since professors and students are individuals whose behavior is regulated by the norms of public morality. In the second case, ethics issues come to the fore, and the problem of moral students education in the corporate spirit be- comes one of the most important. The article analyzes various points of view of professors and public figures on the issue. Theoretical disputes on the issue were transformed into behavioral strategies and gave rise to complex psychological conflicts. The article analyze two types of collisions. The first type is a conflict between corporate ethics and the profes- sor's right to choose his own civil position. It is considered on the example of the relations of professors K.D. Kavelin and B.N. Chicherin. The second type is the conflict between corporate ethics and the legal norms of university life. It is considered on the example of the story of the resignation of Professor V.N. Leshkov, organized at the Moscow University by Chicherin. These conflicts indicate the formation of a new ethical space of the Russian university at the turning point of epochs.
