Neural Network Maps as a Method for Constructing Mathematical Models
Scientists from HSE University–Nizhny Novgorod and the Institute of Physics Belgrade, Serbia, are jointly exploring the application of machine learning techniques and neural networks to the study of nonlinear dynamics. Natalya Stankevich, Leading Research Fellow at the Laboratory of Topological Methods in Dynamics of the Faculty of Informatics, Mathematics, and Computer Science at HSE University–Nizhny Novgorod, spoke to the HSE News Service about this international project.

HSE Scientists Develop Method to Compress Large Language Models Without Losing Quality
Researchers from the AI and Digital Science Institute at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new compression method for large language models such as GPT and LLaMA that reduces their size by 25–36% without additional training or significant loss of accuracy. This is the first approach to use mathematical transformations—specifically, rotations of model weights—to make models more amenable to compression with structured matrices. The study results have been published in ACL Findings 2025. The code is available on GitHub.

The Helen Episode in Aeneid 2: Between Authorial Poetry and Anonymity

P. 136–151.
Shumilin M.

It is suggested that in the debates about the authenticity of the so-called 'Helen Episode' in Aeneid 2 (Verg. Aen. 2.567-88), the stronger points of both the defenders of the authenticity of the episode and the scholars who treat it as a late interpolation are reconcilable if we imagine that the episode was added in the first edition of the poem by L. Varius Rufus who was the editor to fill an obvious lacuna. This scenario implies an interesting combination of a self-consciously anonymised approach and elements of authorial poetry, which might account for some of the problems connected with the text.

Approximate Calculation of the Generalized Erdélyi-Kober Operator Using a Cubic Spline
Shishkina E., Revista Internacional de Metodos Numericos para Calculo y Diseno en Ingenieria 2025
This article investigates the problem of approximating the generalized Erdélyi-Kober fractional operator (often referred to as the Lowndes operator) using cubic splines. A method based on cubic spline interpolation is proposed for approximating the operator on a non-uniform grid. The convergence rate of the proposed method is proven, and its stability is analyzed. Error bounds are established for functions in ...

Gordin V. A., Smirnov M. A., Russian Meteorology and Hydrology 2025 No. 50 P. 1016–1028
Statistical evaluation of three-dimensional auto- and cross-correlation functions for increments from the first guess was performed to interpolate the complex forecast (postprocessing) of geopotential height and temperature to regular grid points. The forecast fields from the ICON model were used as the first guess. Positive definiteness was provided in the evaluation. The verification of the ...
