Mount Taishan, located in the territory of the present Shandong province, one of the most famous Chinese sacred mountains, became one of the mythic places for dwelling of the souls of departed by the beginning of the new era. Even in the Han era, there were some mentions of the Taishan underground government. The article examines the structure and functions of the Taishan supernatural world in the 6th-10th centuries. The improved system of the imperial bureaucracy was reflected in the ideas of the other world. The considered era belongs to the representation of the submontane world by the district ruler's large office, littered with cases that even local bureaucrats cannot always figure out. The Taishan government's integration into the system of Buddhist hells continued, but inconsistently, the Taishan ruler's status was not clarified. The Taoists also tried to keep the Taishan government. Outside the interests of Taoists and Buddhists lay stories about the activities of small local deities.
