Thomas Howard 3-d Earl of Effingham in 1770 fought for the liberation of Greeks as a volunteer of the First Russian Archipelago expedition. Later he became famous for his speeches in the British Parliament against the war with American colonists and died in 1791 as a Jamaica governor.
