The textbook contains material on the 500-year history of Russian-British relations. Topics include the political and diplomatic ties between the two countries; the close contacts between the ruling dynasties and Soviet Russia and Britain; Russian-British economic and cultural cooperation. The authors have designed various tasks to maintain an interest in their country and the country of the target language, develop critical thinking and analytical skills. The development of speaking skills, including presentations, discussions and debates, is at the core of most tasks. The textbook consists of chapters that logically present the whole palette of Russian-British relations over nearly five centuries. In addition, an appendix has been developed to provide students with supplementary material, to enable them to work through the topics in more detail and form the basis for further credible research. The textbook conforms to the updated Federal State Educational Standard of Higher Education. The textbook is designed for bachelors and masters majoring in language studies, linguistics, and intercultural communication.
