Патриотические настроения дилемма «родина или государство»
The article considers patriotism as one of the most difficult social concepts to be
‘measured’ for it has different ‘dimensions’ that are discursive rather than determined
by objective factors. To interpret the results of sociological surveys correctly the authors suggest to add two new ‘dimensions’ to the study of patriotism to contextualize
the typical empirical data on the patriotic mood of the younger generations with the data
that allow to overcome the dilemma of ‘homeland or state’ when talking about the Russian patriotic mood. The first dimension consists of the general social mood estimated
through two key indicators – social fears and social trust; the second dimension consists
of the geopolitical awareness, i.e. includes the perception of one’s country as a geopolitical actor and the images of neighbouring countries.
