Modelling Deterministic Channel Access in Millimetre Wave Wi-Fi
.
Due to the scarcity of license exempt spectrum at low frequencies, next generation multi-gigabit wireless communication will use 60 GHz. Propagation characteristics make impossible to use omnidirectional high-rate low-power transmission at long distances. As for directional transmission, it cannot be efficient with random channel access while the usage of deterministic one even in the state-of-the-art 60 GHz technologies - e.g. IEEE 802.11ad - raises a question of how much channel time shall be allocated for a stream to satisfy its QoS requirement. The main contribution of the paper is the mathematical model of Constant Bit Rate (CBR) flow transmission in IEEE 802.11ad networks, which allows to answer this question.

Wireless Networks are being developed rapidly during the last two decades. Since that time, science and technologies have been modernized from slow GPRS networks to the networks of fourth generation, which are allowed to transfer the data wirelessly at the high speed and relatively low latency. However, the technological progress has not being stopped after ...

Ultra-Reliable Low Latency Communications (URLLC) is an important feature of 5G networks which cannot be enabled without redesigning the architecture of cellular networks. While most activities in 3GPP are focused on developing low-layer functionality, such as modulation and coding schemes, OFDMA numerology, fast hybrid automatic repeat request, in the paper, we study the influence of ...

Historical fragmentation in spectrum access models accentuates the need for novel concepts that allow for efficient sharing of already available but underutilized spectrum. The emerging LSA regulatory framework is expected to enable more advanced spectrum sharing between a limited number of users while guaranteeing their much needed interference protection. However, the ultimate benefits of LSA ...

To improve Wi-Fi performance in scenarios with high collision probability, recent amendments to the Wi- Fi standard introduce a number of channel access methods based on preliminary channel time reservations. A common feature of these methods is that channel time is reserved in a periodic manner. Unfortunately, having defined a number of channel reservation methods, ...

The IEEE 802.11s standard of Wi-Fi Mesh networking introduces a novel deterministic channel access mechanism called MCCA. This mechanism allows stations to reserve distinct time intervals for their data transmission. Since each station is informed about their neighbouring stations' reservations, it does not transmit during them leading to less packet losses due to packets collisions. ...

Network coding is a paradigm in data transport that allows a network node to code information flows before forwarding them. While it has been theoretically proven that network coding saves bandwidth and increases throughput of multicast communication, it does not directly consider the quality of service (QoS) requirements of multicast routing. In this paper, we study the problem ...
