‘The Peak of Stupidity and ‘The Valley of Despair: HSE Economists Propose an Explanation for the Dunning–Kruger Effect
The Dunning–Kruger effect, which describes a sharp surge in self-confidence among beginners followed by an equally rapid decline as they gain experience, can be explained by the nature of the learning process and the acquisition of new knowledge. This conclusion was reached by Andrey Vorchik of the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences together with independent researcher Murat Mamyshev. They developed a mathematical model of learning and demonstrated how subjective confidence is formed and changes as knowledge accumulates, as well as how teachers can reduce the ‘valley of despair’ experienced by learners.

Analytical model of batch flow multihop transmission in wireless networks with channel reservations

Automation and Remote Control. 2015. Vol. 76. No. 7. P. 1179–1192.
Ivanov A., Khorov E., Lyakhov A.

The IEEE 802.11s standard of Wi-Fi Mesh networking introduces a novel deterministic channel access mechanism called MCCA. This mechanism allows stations to reserve distinct time intervals for their data transmission. Since each station is informed about their neighbouring stations' reservations, it does not transmit during them leading to less packet losses due to packets collisions. However, to provide QoS (Quality of Service) over an imperfect wireless channel additional packets retransmissions might be needed. That leads to problem of choosing appropriate MCCA reservations parameters. In the paper, we develop an analytical model of QoS provisioning data streaming over a lossy Wi-Fi Mesh network via MCCA. The model can be used to find such reservations parameters for which the channel resource consumption is minimal while QoS requirements are met.

Three Algorithms for Merging Hierarchical Navigable Small World Graphs
Ponomarenko A., / Series Computer Science "arxiv.org". 2025.
This paper addresses the challenge of merging hierarchical navigable small world (HNSW) graphs, a critical operation for distributed systems, incremental indexing, and database compaction. We propose three algorithms for this task: Naive Graph Merge (NGM), Intra Graph Traversal Merge (IGTM), and Cross Graph Traversal Merge (CGTM). These algorithms differ in their approach to vertex selection ...

Growth in noncommutative algebras and entropy in derived categories
Piontkovski D., / Series arXiv "math". 2026.
A noncommutative projective variety is defined, following Artin and Zhang, by a graded coherent algebra 𝐴. The category of coherent sheaves is then the quotient qgr(𝐴) of the category of finitely presented graded modules by the subcategory of torsion modules. We consider the categorical and polynomial entropies of the Serre twist, that is, of the ...

Multilinear nilalgebras and the Jacobian theorem
Piontkovski D., / Series arXiv "math". 2025.
If a symmetric multilinear algebra is weakly nil, then it is Engel. This result may be regarded as an infinite-dimensional analogue of the well-known Jacobian theorem, which states that if a polynomial mapping has a polynomial inverse, then its Jacobian matrix is invertible. This refines a theorem of Gerstenhaber and partially answers a question posed ...

ML-based Fast Simulation of FARICH Responses
Shipilov F., Barnyakov A., Ivanov A. et al., / Series Physics "arxiv.org". 2026.
A fast simulation of the detector response is a vital task in high-energy physics (HEP). Traditional Monte-Carlo methods form the backbone of modern particle physics simulation software but are computationally expensive. We present a machine-learning-based approach to fast simulation of the Focusing Aerogel Ring Imaging Cherenkov (FARICH) detector response. Given a particle track and momentum, ...

Using predefined vector systems to speed up neural network multimillion class classification
Gabdullin N., Androsov I., / Series Computer Science "arxiv.org". 2026.
Label prediction in neural networks (NNs) has O(n) complexity proportional to the number of classes. This holds true for classification using fully connected layers and cosine similarity with some set of class prototypes. In this paper we show that if NN latent space (LS) geometry is known and possesses specific properties, label prediction complexity can ...

Petrovanov I., Sergeev A., / Series Computer Science "arxiv.org". 2025. No. 2512.18332.
Transport coding reduces message delay in packet-switched networks by introducing controlled redundancy at the transport layer:  original packets are encoded into  coded packets, and the message is reconstructed after the first  successful deliveries, effectively shifting latency from the maximum packet delay to the -th order statistic. We present a concise, reproducible discrete-event implementation of transport coding in OMNeT++, including ...

Belogaev A., Khorov E., Krasilov A. et al., , in: Proc. Personal, Indoor, and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC).: [б.и.], 2016. P. 1–6.
Various networking protocols currently used in wireless networks disseminate much control information. In particular, the deterministic channel access protocol (called MCCA) specified in the IEEE 802.11 standard sends information about channel reservations. The standard proposes a novel approach to reduce this overhead, which is based on dividing various pieces of control information into several groups. ...

Delivering Fairness and QoS Guarantees for LTE/Wi-Fi Coexistence Under LAA Operation
Maule M., Moltchanov D., Kustarev P. et al., IEEE Access 2018 Vol. 6 P. 7359–7373
Licensed assisted access (LAA) enables the coexistence of long-term evolution (LTE) and WiFi in unlicensed bands, while potentially offering improved coverage and data rates. However, cooperation with the conventional random-access protocols that employ listen-before-talk (LBT) considerations makes meeting the LTE performance requirements difficult, since delay and throughput guarantees should be delivered. In this paper, we ...

Математическая модель передачи неординарного потока с помощью периодических резервирований и блочного квитирования в канале с коррелированными помехами
Khorov E., Ivanov A., Lyakhov A., Автоматика и телемеханика 2017 Т. 78 № 11 С. 48–63

Ivanov A., Khorov E., Lyakhov A., Автоматика и телемеханика 2015 Т. 76 № 7 С. 52–68

Analytical Model of QoS-aware Streaming in Wi-Fi Networks via Periodic TXOPs
Ivanov A., Khorov E., Lyakhov A., , in: Proceedings of Global Communication Conference (GlobeCom) 2015, ETFWLAN Workshop.: IEEE, 2015.
To improve Wi-Fi performance in scenarios with high collision probability, recent amendments to the Wi- Fi standard introduce a number of channel access methods based on preliminary channel time reservations. A common feature of these methods is that channel time is reserved in a periodic manner. Unfortunately, having defined a number of channel reservation methods, ...

Modelling Deterministic Channel Access in Millimetre Wave Wi-Fi

Due to the scarcity of license exempt spectrum at low frequencies, next generation multi-gigabit wireless communication will use 60 GHz. Propagation characteristics make impossible to use omnidirectional high-rate low-power transmission at long distances. As for directional transmission, it cannot be efficient with random channel access while the usage of deterministic one even in the state-of-the-art ...
