Pocket Money, Personal Interest, and Family Practices: What Shapes Students Economic Literacy?
University students' economic literacy depends not only on their field of study but also on their interest in economics, the learning environment, and family financial practices. For example, students who received pocket money irregularly tend to perform better on economic literacy tests than their peers who received financial support on a regular basis. These findings come from a study conducted by HSE University involving more than 1,100 students from five Russian universities. The findings have been published in Cakrawala Pendidikan.

HSE Study Reveals Imbalance in the Generative AI Market
Researchers at HSE University analysed how effectively the global generative artificial intelligence market converts investment into real revenue, concluding that AI is currently developing faster than it is paying off. The results have been published in the journal Foresight and STI Governance.

Black-Box Classification Techniques for Demographic Sequences: from Customised SVM to RNN

P. 31–40.
A. Muratova, P. Sushko, T. Espy

Nowadays there is a large amount of demographic data which should be analysed and interpreted. From accumulated demographic data, more useful information can be extracted by applying modern methods of data mining. The aim of this study is to compare the methods of classification of demographic data by customizing the SVM kernels using various similarity measures. Since demographers are interested in sequences without discontinuity, formulas for such sequences similarity measures were derived. Then they were used as kernels in the SVM method, which is the novelty of this study. Recurrent neural network algorithms, such as SimpleRNN, GRU and LSTM, are also compared. The best classification result with SVM method is obtained using a special kernel function in SVM by transforming sequences into features, but recurrent neural network outperforms SVM.

Classification Approach to Mapping Cultural Differences: An Illustration Using Survey Data from 60 Russian Regions
Nastina E., Sokolov B., / Series OSF "SocArXiv". 2025.
We argue that a classification-based approach to measuring cultural differences across countries or subnational regions is a promising complement, and sometimes an alternative, to the widely used dimensional method in cross-cultural research. The latter summarises cultural variation using continuous dimensions, for example, Hofstede’s famous individualism-collectivism dimension. However, this approach relies on strong parametric assumptions, which are ...

Screen-Cam Imitation Module for Improving Data Hiding Robustness
Dzhanashia K., Aleksandr Fedosov, Oleg Evsutin, Sensors 2025 Vol. 25 No. 23 Article 7726
Using an attack-simulation module is a well-recognized approach to improving the robustness of end-to-end neural-network-based data-hiding schemes. However, most proposed attack simulators are limited in the types of attacks they cover, usually handling only a basic set of digital transformations. Real, in-demand use cases for data-hiding methods may involve modifications that cannot be modeled by ...

O.A. Goryunov, Maslennikov O. V., Kiselev M. V. et al., Chaos, Solitons and Fractals 2026 Vol. 203 Article 117663
Training complex, biologically plausible Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) with local learning rules is a significant challenge for theoretical analysis. Here we address this problem by developing a comprehensive analytical theory for the learning dynamics of CoLaNET, a recently proposed columnar SNN. In particular, we consider a simplified model that captures the core algorithmic logic of ...

Japheth B. A., Alisa R. Shishkina, Andrey V. Korotayev, Вестник РГГУ 2025 No. 3 P. 10–28
This study investigates the complex interplay between demographic pressures, governance quality, and political instability in West Africa, with a specific focus on the role of youth bulges in shaping national outcomes. Drawing on systems thinking and mediation analysis, the research posits that large youth populations, while often considered latent sources of instability, only become politically ...

Prikhodko R., Moshkin A., Romanov A., , in: 2025 International Russian Automation Conference (RusAutoCon).: IEEE, 2025. P. 273–278.
The vertebral arteries are one of the most important sources of blood supply to the brain, therefore any pathological changes in them can be the reason behind serious diseases. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) allows diagnosticians to examine main arteries, which is exceptionally important for effective diagnosis. However, because of the small size of arteries relative ...

Surkov A., Sergei Koltcov, Ignatenko V. et al., Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 2025 Vol. 681 Article 131085
Neural networks are powerful tools capable of achieving state-of-the-art performance across a wide range of tasks; however, their effectiveness often comes at the cost of extremely large numbers of parameters, which can hinder their deployment in resource-constrained environments. To address this issue, various pruning techniques have been proposed to reduce model size and complexity while ...
