Jako recitativum в древнерусских летописях XI–XIII вв.
Вестник Московского университета. Серия 9: Филология. 2014. № 2. С. 102-122.
In Old Russian Chronicles, it has been attested three types of reported speech. In this article, I focus on formal features of jako recitativum, i.e. direct discourse embedded with the particle jako. In some chronicles, there is no formal difference between jako recitativum and indirect discourse, as both constructions are introduced by jako. In other chronicles, jako recitativum is clearly contrasted with indirect discourse introduced by the subordinate conjunctions ozhe (azhe). In the latter chronicles, the contexts with jako recitativum are supposed to express evidential distancing towards the content of utterance.

The paper considers the use of infinitives and subjunctive forms as modal patterns of indirect speech attested in Russian Chronicles of the XI—XVI centuries. In early texts, an infinitive in a subordinate clause describes either a speech act that must be put into practice or a situation destined to happen. Subjunctive forms are used only ...

In this article, I trace the diachronic trends in the use of reporting verbs in Russian chronicles of the XI–XVI centuries. The core of my study is the distribution of the basic reporting verbs ‘to say’ versus ‘to tell’. In the early texts, verbs of saying рещи, глаголати and мълвити occur only in reporting direct speech. So called tell-verbs such ...

This paper describes historical changes in the pattern and semantics of the syntactic structure with jako recitativum, i.e., direct speech introduced by the particle jako ‘that, how’. This construction occurs widely in Russian chronicles of the eleventh through sixteenth centuries. In some chronicles jako recitativum is used as a semantically neutral model of the reported ...

The paper considers the pronoun used in logophoric contexts in Archi, an East Caucasian language of the Lezgic group. Like many other languages of the family, Archi shows a formal connection between logophoric and reflexive pronouns. The latter differs from the former in that it carries an obligatory intensifier particle. This connection questions the suggestion ...

L-form used without auxiliary in the non-perfect meaning is traditionally regarded as a former
form of the perfect tense, which had changed into the only past tense form in the live speech. However,
the analysis of Russian chronicles has shown that contexts with such use of l-forms can be divided
in several types. This article discusses one of ...

This article deals with a comparative diachronic study of subject reference in Russian, Latvian and Ingrian. In these languages, a typologically rare restructuring of referential pattern took place — from an affixal to a pronoun-affixal type. For each language, internal and external scenarios of further referential type change are analyzed. The analysis shows that in Russian and (most likely) Latvian, ...

The Russian language has undergone a typologically rare evolution from an affixal to a pronominal strategy in its subject reference marking pattern. This shift can be partially explained by the fall of copulas in verbal clauses, but within this approach, a large time gap between the copular loss in the third person, on the one hand, and in the first
and ...

В работе корректируется общепринятое мнение, согласно которому древнерусские глаголы «свататися» / «сватитися» и производное от них «сват(ь)ство» уже в древний период обладали нематримониальным значением «вступать в политический союз, договариваться». На примере двух летописных эпизодов продемонстрировано, что соответствующие словарные описания ошибочны, нематримониальное значение появляется у этой лексической группы лишь под пером историков XVIII века. ...

The construction «быти (past tense) + l-form» is usually regarded as a pluperfect form. However, as the material of the oldest Russian chronicles (Hypatian Chronicle, The first Novgorodian Chronicle of Older and Younger recensions, Laurentian Chronicle) shows, there are some examples, where this construction cannot be explained by pluperfect semantics. It can mark: 1) a ...
