Annotation: the article describes the main characteristics of the employer's small and medium-sized businesses as the subject of social and labor relations. Theoretical basis of the study were value and resource approaches. Empirical data were obtained through semistructured interviews with employers of small and medium business. In the content analysis of transcripts of interviews research focus was directed on the study of the main characteristics of the respondents’ enterprises and their resources, particular attention was given to the objectives and values of modern employers and their business, submitted through the notion of "ethical business", "social responsibility" and "charity". The research results are of interest as one of the stages of studying modern subjects of social and labour relations in small and medium businesses and their interactions with other actors because resources, goals and values of actors define directions, conditions, character and success of their interaction with each other. Understanding these features will allow players to choose the optimal strategy for interaction among all the actors of social and labor relations that would contribute to social stability in the society as a whole. Exploring the unique set of empirical data, the author concludes that modern small and medium business employers have various resources, but in limited quantities, and in contrast to the traditional, more information and highlights innovative, reputation and time resources. On the objectives and values of modern small and medium businesses, there is a purpose beyond the traditional framework of "profit".
