The 'Second Shift' Is Not Why Women Avoid News
Women are more likely than men to avoid political and economic news, but the reasons for this behaviour are linked less to structural inequality or family-related stress than to personal attitudes and the emotional perception of news content. This conclusion was reached by HSE researchers after analysing data from a large-scale survey of more than 10,000 residents across 61 regions of Russia. The study findings have been published in Woman in Russian Society.

The Eurasian Project and Europe: Regional Discontinuities and Geopolitics

Croydon : Palgrave Macmillan, 2015.
Under the general editorship: D. Lane, V. Samokhvalov

Considering the Eurasian project from a variety of historical, philosophical, political, economic and geopolitical perspectives, this volume traces the birth, evoluation and rebirth of Eurasian regionalism. It examines the historical and philosophical background of Eurasia and adresses the discursive construction of the Eurasian concept in the contemprorary period, contrasring and comparing it with the formation of the European Union.

Looking afresh at the politics and economics of Eurasian integration in a global context, this book offers a highly assesment of the region's presence in the ideological agendas and nation-building programmes of its member states - Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus - and its geostrategic relevance in world politics.

The Eurasian Vector of Russia's Development
Shkaratan O., , in: The Eurasian Project and Europe: Regional Discontinuities and Geopolitics.: Croydon: Palgrave Macmillan, 2015. P. 25–33.
The paper touches on original propositions of ‘Eurasianism’ as a theory of certain historic modality, and argues that it has to be taken more seriously than in its merely discursive aspect if it is to be related to current political and economic developments. It particularly focuses on Russia being a historical core of Eurasian world after ...

In this special issue, we bring together the post-colonial and post-socialist conditions of the post-Soviet space and the Indian subcontinent through the study of human–nature relationships. Classification Approach to Mapping Cultural Differences: An Illustration Using Survey Data from 60 Russian Regions
Nastina E., Sokolov B., / Series OSF "SocArXiv". 2025.
We argue that a classification-based approach to measuring cultural differences across countries or subnational regions is a promising complement, and sometimes an alternative, to the widely used dimensional method in cross-cultural research. The latter summarises cultural variation using continuous dimensions, for example, Hofstede’s famous individualism-collectivism dimension. However, this approach relies on strong parametric assumptions, which are ...

Cross-Nationally, Non-Probability Web Surveys Demonstrate Poorer DemographicCoverage and Yield More Liberal Estimates of Public Opinion than F2F Surveys
Korsunava V., Sokolov B., / Series OSF "SocArXiv". 2025.
Non-probability web surveys offer several advantages over face-to-face (F2F) interviews—they are cheaper, faster, more accessible, and reduce interviewer effects and desirability bias. As such, they are increasingly popular in both academic and commercial research. However, they often yield demographically biased samples, raising concerns about the accuracy of the resulting public opinion estimates. Most studies on ...

The  notion  of  “political  accommodation” applied  to the  theory  and  practice  of managing cultural diversity could enrich the Russian academic dictionary. Migrant residential concentration areas have been a significant focus for research, but academic attention has primarily centered on their effects rather than how they form. There is some research considering the discrete factors of such areas’ emergence, but these factors are rarely fused into a comprehensive explanation with a description of specific mechanisms in operation. ...

Recent global challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the full-scale war in Ukraine, and rising trade barriers, appear to have prompted a critical reassessment of globalisation. This shift suggests a move away from neoliberal economic integration toward security-driven strategies and selective alliances (e.g., "friend-shoring") to address vulnerabilities reportedly exposed by authoritarian regimes. While this reorientation may ...
