The author scrutinizes the theoretical framework of the Russian Oriental and Slavic studies of the first half of the XIXth century. Concerning this she revealed archival documents contained the evidences that Italian philosopher Giambattista Vico’ ideas was well-known in Kazan university. Kazan scholars’ rendition of Vico’s works came to be arguments for anthropological approach to the study of ‘exotic’ and ‘eastern’ peoples.
