Пожар церкви Михаила Архангела на Прусской улице в свете отношений Новгорода и князя во второй половине XII века
This article examines the events of 1187, when Prince Yaroslav Vladimirovich was recalled to Novgorod. He had recently been accused of "causing much harm to the Novgorod land." The article offers an explanation for the impressive length of Yaroslav's second reign, which lasted twelve years with only a short break. It argues that the story of a lightning strike on the Church of the Archangel Michael, along with a series of ominous omens noted in that same year, prompted the Novgorodians to recall and retain the prince, whose intercessor was now the Archangel Michael himself. The memory of the lightning strike and the death of "two men" (or "two children") in the burning but undamaged church (or its annex) is reflected in both Novgorod and Vladimir chronicles. An analysis of chronicle accounts suggests that the account of this event entered the Vladimir chronicle thanks to the Novgorod embassy sent to fetch Yaroslav. The same event was later recalled by Archbishop Gabriel and the sons of the Novgorod posadnik, Mikhalko Stepanich, who commissioned two (and not one, as previously assumed) churches of the Three Holy Children in Novgorod and its environs. , , церковь Михаила Архангела, Михалко Степанич, прушане, архиепископ Гаврила, Владимирская летопись, церковь Спаса на Нередице, Новгородская первая летопись
