Визуальный компонент в скопическом режиме транснационального экологического движения
Environmental issues and green ideology have become an increasingly significant factor of
international relations in recent decades. Many researchers tend to focus on the ethical side of
environmentalism, paying little attention to its aesthetic component. It is possible to fill this
epistemic lacuna with the help of recent aesthetic and visual turn in IR. Applying the concept
of “scopic regime”, developing the term of «visual cluster» and using the tools of formal aesthetics, the author studies a four-part transnational case: European Green Deal, the UN Environment Program, International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources
and the National Project “Ecology” in Russia. The aim of the paper is to designate aesthetic dimension of the visual cluster in the scopic regime of the contemporary environmental movement. The study showed that this visual cluster presupposes the representation of humans,
who work or pose for camera, of machinery, which refer to the pathos of active conquest of nature or to more harmonious coexistence, as well as of idealized flora and fauna. The common
thing is the total aestheticization of own identity, but also, paradoxically, the aestheticization
of the Other — of pollution and climate change. It can be explained by the aestheticization of
politics, when, due to the inertia of the scopic regime, objects can acquire visual attractiveness
beyond the linear logic of ideological struggle.
