Заповедник как школа: как на Байкале учат любить и понимать природу
The article is devoted to the analysis of the environmental education practices, implemented at protected areas (PAs) in the Republic of Buryatia. The material was prepared following an expedition within the HSE University “Rediscovering Russia” project. Based on interviews with staff of nature reserves and national parks, the key principles of their work are identified: lifelong learning, a collaborating interaction model with local communities, reliance on practical experience, and the integration of education with science and tourism. The article details work strategies according to different target audiences (children, local communities, and tourists), as well as the research tools used—from digital platforms and visitor centers to projects based on traditional ecological knowledge. Three successful regional models of environmental education are presented in the article, using the examples of the following PAs: Zapovednoe Podlemorie, the Baikal Nature Reserve, and the Tunkinsky National Park. The article also systematizes the main challenges faced, such as staff shortages and underfunding.
