The RothC carbon dynamic model is used to assess the sequestration potential of arable soils in Russia. This paper presents a methodology for transitioning the input data block responsible for net primary production (NPP) information from publicly available resources to local statistics from the Rosstat Municipal Database. An alternative approach for calculating carbon input to the soil was based on deriving carbon input using data on crop areas and yields from harvested areas. The results are presented for Tver and Moscow Regions. After applying the new approach, the estimates were differentiated at the municipal level for the upper 30 cm of arable soils with the spatial resolution of 1 km the shift to local data resulted in the average reduction in NPP of 1.5 t C/ha/year. Regarding the absolute sequestration rate, the shift towards positive values was observed, averaging 0.2 t C/ha/year for Moscow Oblast and 0.15 t C/ha/year for Tver Oblast. At the same time, the variation (spread) of values between municipalities increased.
