Researchers Develop Method for Direct Generation of Regulatory DNA
Researchers at HSE University have developed a model for generating promoters and enhancers—DNA sequences that regulate gene activity. The model works directly with DNA nucleotides, without first transforming them into a continuous numerical representation. This solution could be useful for applications in synthetic biology and gene therapy. The study results were presented at the ICLR 2026 Workshop ‘Generative AI in Genomics (Gen^2): Barriers and Frontiers.’

HF Heating Effects as Seen From Below and Above: First Results of Joint SURA–Ionosfera-M Experiment

Geophysical Research Letters. 2026. Vol. 53. P. 1–11.
Chernyshov A., Padokhin A. M., Grach S. M., Kogogin D. A., Shindin A. V., Pulinets S. A., Nasyrov I. A., Beletsky A. B., Tkachev I. D., Legostaeva J. K., Chugunin D. V., Evdokimova M. A., Kurbatov G. A., Tsybulya K. G., Solin A. E., Shchennikov A. V., Tareeva E. V., Emelyanov V. V., Mogilevsky M. M.

This paper presents the first results of a coordinated experiment on the ionospheric plasma response to high-frequency (HF) overdense heating, conducted using the SURA heating facility and the Ionosfera-M satellite. The experiment combined ground-based observations with in situ satellite measurements, enabling a comprehensive study of artificial ionospheric disturbances. During the experiment, the SURA facility transmitted HF waves into the ionosphere toward the magnetic zenith, while Ionosfera-M and ground-based instruments measured various ionospheric plasma characteristics in the modified region. The penetration of the pump wave energy up to the satellite height was observed as well as some broadening of VLF noise spectrum and signatures similar to the main ionospheric trough in the HF-disturbed region. The data analysis revealed a coincidence of the regions of artificial airglow generation and electron density depletion near the magnetic zenith. The results demonstrate an efficiency of combining ground-based and satellite studies of the HF-pump induced phenomena.

Non-epitaxial perovskite polariton laser diode operating under direct current
Zhukov A., Kryzhanovskaya N., Moiseev E. et al., Nature 2026 Vol. 656 P. 80–85
Reaching lasing in electrically pumped microdevices based on solution-processed semiconductors poses a substantial scientific and technological challenge. Halide perovskites offer a promising platform for electrical injection1, as their optically excited single-crystal cavities2–4 and predesigned5,6 or postprocessed microstructures7,8 have exhibited low lasing threshold. Indirect electrical pumping of a dual-cavity perovskite laser was recently obtained9, using a well-established technological concept of embedding a ...

Shabanov N., Kuricheva O., Kurbatova J. et al., / Series Working Papers SSRN "Department of Economics Ca’ Foscari University of Venice". 2026.
The carbon balance of an ecosystem is the difference between Gross Primary Productivity (GPP) and Ecosystem Respiration (Reco) as expressed by Net Ecosystem Exchange (NEE). While remote sensing retrievals of GPP have reached maturity, Reco estimation remains underexplored and ultimately cast bias on NEE. Here we present an end-to-end multi-scale analysis of the mechanism of ...

Understanding the electric double layer at electrode–electrolyte interfaces, Part III: crystallographic-face dependence of silver capacitance in aqueous NaF solutions
Mazur D., Brandyshev P., Doronin S. V. et al., Electrochimica Acta 2026 Vol. 577 Article 149729
The electric double layer (EDL) at a single-crystal metal surface is controlled not only by the electrolyte composition and the electrode potential, but also by the atomic structure of the surface itself. This makes the Ag(hkl)/NaF interface a stringent test for continuum theories of the EDL. In the third part of our series, we examine ...

Hall effect in electrolyte solutions: Self-consistent Debye–Hückel–Onsager theory
Budkov Y., Kalikin N., Journal of Chemical Physics 2026 Vol. 165 Article 064506
A self-consistent statistical-mechanical theory of the Hall effect in electrolyte solutions is developed by extending the self-consistent Debye–Hückel–Onsager (SCDHO) framework to crossed electric and magnetic fields. The theory incorporates non-local ionic charge distributions via Slater-type form factors, regularizing the Coulomb interaction at short range, and accounts for dielectric friction through ion-specific coefficients, employing experimental values ...
