HSE Scientists Train Neural Network to 'Hear' Faults in Electric Motors
Researchers at the AI and Digital Science Institute of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new method—the Signature-Guided Data Augmentation (SGDA) framework—that achieves 99% accuracy in motor fault detection and 86% accuracy in fault classification. The application of this approach can reduce industrial equipment repair costs, minimise downtime, and improve production safety. The study results have been published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.

Juxtapositional vs. possessive-like encoding in Russian specificational constructions
Logvinova N., Russian linguistics 2026 Vol. 50 Article 11
This paper presents the first in-depth corpus-based study of a previously overlooked syntactic variation in Russian: the competition between juxtapositional (Nominative) and possessive-like (Genitive) encoding of the second noun (the term) in specificational constructions (e.g., ponjatie čest’ (notion.NOM honor.NOM) vs. ponjatie česti (notion.NOMhonor.GEN) ‘the notion of honor’). While typological research has established cross-linguistic preferences for one encoding strategy over another, intralinguistic variation ...

Lander Y., Bagirokova I., Рема 2021 № 1 С. 56–75
West Circassian displays two types of cilitive (facilitive ‘easy’ and difficilitive ‘difficult’) forms, namely noun cilitives, which describe individuals, and secondary cilitives, which describe the state of affairs. Secondary cilitives seemingly originate from noun cilitives, hence the same cilitive suffixes mark forms that are remarkably different from each other in their morphosyntax. While noun cilitives ...

Barðdal J., Kulikov L., Pooth R. et al., Poznan Studies in Contemporary Linguistics 2020 Vol. 56 No. 3 P. 413–449
The goal of this article is to introduce to the field a particular subtype of valency- reducing strategies, referred to as oblique anticausativization below. Instead, oblique anticausatives are characterized by the preservation of the object case of ...

The origin of non-canonical case marking of subjects in Proto-Indo-European: Accusative, ergative, or semantic alignment
Pooth R., Kerkhof P. A., Kulikov L. et al., Indogermanischen Forschungen 2019 Vol. 124 P. 245–264
For a long time one of the most bewildering conundrums of Indo-European linguistics has been the issue of how to reconstruct the alignment system of this ancient language state, given the lack of distinction between S and O marking in the Proto-Indo-European neuters nouns and the problem of the Hittite ergative. An additional complication stems ...

Argument structure, conceptual metaphor and semantic change: How to succeed in Indo-European without really trying
Johnson C., Kerkhof P. A., Kulikov L. et al., Diachronica 2019 Vol. 36 No. 4 P. 463–508
In contrast to grammaticalization studies of lexical verbs changing into auxiliaries, the realm of semantic changes associated with lexical verbs is an understudied area of historical semantics. We concentrate on the emergence of verbs of success from more semantically concrete verbs, uncovering six conceptual metaphors which all co-occur with non-canonical encoding of subjects in Indo-European. Careful scrutiny of the ...
