This article analyzes the leisure preferences of the Dmitrov merchant I. A. Tolchenov based on his autobiographical text "Journal or Note on the Life and Adventures of I. A. Tolchenov." The study shows how different leisure practices changed or remained the same throughout the Dmitrov merchant's life, based on his family, financial, and social status, and highlights the changes and continuity in leisure practices at different stages of I. A. Tolchenov's life. It was demonstrated that the wealthy merchants of the second half of the 18th century had the same opportunities for leisure as the nobility.
