Имена и именины в расходных книгах Патриаршего двора XVII в.
The study is devoted to the representation of name days in a poorly studied and largely unpublished corpus of sources – the supplies books of the Patriarchal Court. As will be shown in the article, these materials are a promising source for solving various onomastic problems. The pages of the supplies books recorded visits from various persons to the Patriarch, including on the occasion of the celebration of the name day, with the visitor presenting the patriarch with a pie, and receiving a blessing by an icon. Recording the tradition allows us to calculate the patron saint in memory of whom the visitor received his baptismal name, and in cases of polynomy – to find out or clarify the middle name of famous historical figures. The article will also consider the relationship between individual holidays and the church calendar cycle, primarily the problem of name days and fasting. Comparison of the supplies books with other sources allows us to significantly expand our understanding of the unique Russian tradition of celebrating name days in general.
