Особенности физической активности трудоспособных россиян во время пандемии COVID-19: роль социально-экономического статуса
The article presents the results of an empirical assessment of the relationship between the socio-economic status of working-age Russians and indicators of physical activity before and during the COVID-19. The empirical analysis is based on the data from the Russian Longitudinal Monitoring Survey — Higher School of Economics. The analyzed sample included women aged 16 to 55 and men aged 16 to 60. The dependence of the probability and intensity of physical activity in 2019 and 2020 on characteristics of a person’s socio-economic status as level of education, employment status and income was studied. Econometric modeling was carried out using the two-step Heckman procedure.
As a result of the regression analysis, it was found that the probability of physical activity of respondents with higher education is more than that of persons without a secondary education certificate: the excess was 41% in 2019 and 34% in 2020. At the same time, it was revealed that having a job is a factor that reduces the probability of physical activity by 17% in 2019 and by 8% in 2020. A positive correlation was also established between the probability of physical activity and the respondent’s income level both before and during the COVID-19 pandemic: a 1% increase in income increased the probability of physical activity by 17% in 2019 and by 19% in 2020. At the same time, a significant negative relationship was found between the intensity of physical activity and having higher education and a positive correlation with having job, but only in 2019.
