Многополярный мир и реализм в международной политике: историография и политическая теория Леопольда фон Ранке
An introductory article to the translations of Leopold von Ranke's key political works, published in Russian for the first time. The article considers the main features of Ranke's historiography, as well as the specifics of his political role in Prussia in the 1830s. The main positions of his cultural-historical and political theory, which includes the idea of a multipolar world, the theory of the balance of power and the primacy of the state's foreign policy, are systematically explicated. Ranke's political theory is considered in the paper as an ideological source of the modern trend of Realpolitik in international relations. The final part outlines a number of the main critical arguments against the excessive optimism of Ranke's political theory, expressed as a result of the historical lessons of the XX century by Friedrich Meinecke and others. In considering certain aspects of Ranke's concept, they are compared with the theories of Russian thinkers - Nikolai Danilevsky and Konstantin Leontiev.
