De titulis Chersonesi Tauricae VIII
Гл. 21. С. 172–179.
Shelov-Kovedyaev F. V.
In note 21, the author suggests that the much-discussed epitaph of the commander of the Armenian archers from Chersonesos (IosPE I2 597 + fragment from V.I. Kadeev's excavations in 1971) states that Aikhmon Zareyev, while he was in command of a detachment of Armenian archers, was killed by Ard Maev at the beginning of the battle near Palakos city. The term ϑυρεαφόρος does not denote the quality of his weapons or the type of troops, but the military rank of the deceased. Note 22 substantiates the need for a new reading of a number of names contained in graffiti of crypt from late Antiquity.
