The article highlights the current trends in professional training of specialists dictated by the needs of society, socio-economic and political changes in Russia and abroad. As part of the consideration of the fundamental scientific approach in education, the concepts of "competence", "competence", "personal competence" are formulated. The conditions of effective professional training of future law enforcement specialists are revealed. The importance of psychological work in educational organizations focused on psychological support of the process of personal formation of future specialists is emphasized. In this regard, the goals, objectives and content of the developed Concept of psychological support of vocational education in departmental universities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia are highlighted. In conclusion, the necessity of further scientific search for the most promising system of organization of psychological work units is substantiated
