Scientists Create Open Dataset for Studying Concentration
A team of Russian researchers, including scientists from HSE University–St Petersburg, has developed the first open multimodal dataset containing recordings of brain activity, heart function, and video observations to help researchers understand what happens in the human brain during deep concentration. In the future, the dataset could accelerate the development of neural interfaces, rehabilitation technologies, and AI systems. The article has been published in Scientific Data.

‘Science Is Universal-It Knows No Borders
Fuad Aleskerov, Tenured Professor and Director of the International Centre of Decision Choice and Analysis at HSE University, together with his colleagues, has developed methods of network analysis in bibliometrics that have made it possible to identify patterns in the appearance and citation of publications in academic journals, as well as their influence on each other. When one or a number of studies are frequently cited by a wide range of journals, this is an indicator that the research is of high quality. By contrast, extensive cross-citation within a limited group of journals increases the likelihood of identifying a network of predatory publications.

Scientists Propose Method for More Efficient Resource Use in Machine Learning
An international group of researchers, including mathematicians from the AI and Digital Science Institute at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science, has provided a theoretical justification for a simple and computationally efficient method of estimating uncertainty in Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD). The paper has been published on the scientific preprint server arXiv.org and presented at AISTATS 2026.

The Systemic Methodology of Organization of Active Innovative Media

P. 23–24.
Knyazeva H.

Some methodological foundations of effective construction of active media for innovative development are under consideration in the paper. The ideas of universal evolutionism, ecology understood in an extended sense, emergent properties of complex systems, time management, and the creating desirable futures turn to be useful here.

Dynamical origin of extreme events in mutually coupled and networked Brusselator
Physical Review E - Statistical, Nonlinear, and Soft Matter Physics 2026 Vol. 114 No. 1 P. 014217–014217
This study investigates the dynamical origins and statistical properties of extreme events (EEs) in a diffusively coupled theoretical Brusselator system, extending from pairwise interactions to globally coupled networks. Statistically, the emergence of EEs is characterized by heavy-tailed probability density functions and exponential interevent interval distributions, alongside an analysis of the complementary cumulative distribution function and ...

Unique morphology and ecology lifestyle of a new craniiform brachiopod from the Upper Ordovician of Estonia (Baltica)
Madison A., Plandin F., Kuzmina T. et al., Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology 2026 Vol. 697 Article 113864
Unlike most other brachiopods, craniiforms lack a prominent pedicle, cement to a hard substrate by their ventral valve, and thereby can be easily distinguished in paleontological materials. In this study, we describe a new genus and species from the Porkuni Regional Stage of Northeastern Estonia (Baltica), corresponding to the lower part of the Hirnantian Stage ...

Distributed Self-Regulation of Hierarchical Arbitrage-Free Mesomarkets: Towards Knowledge Problem and Informational Role of Money Flow
Lubashevsky I., Lubashevskiy V., / Series SSRN "Working Paper Series". 2024. No. 4920533.
We present a model for the equilibrium state of a hierarchical supply mesomarket based on a single type of raw material. This model illustrates Hayek's knowledge problem, covering dispersed knowledge, the role of the price system, entrepreneurship, and spontaneous order. The mesomarket is depicted as a tree-like network, with nodes representing micromarkets that balance local supply ...

Hierarchical Arbitrage-Free Mesomarket Model: A Characteristic Unit of Mesoeconomics
Lubashevsky I., Lubashevskiy V., / Series SSRN "Working Paper Series". 2024. No. 4969201.
We present a hierarchical supply mesomarket model based on a single raw material to illustrate the emergence of mesoeconomic units. The mesomarket is depicted as a tree-like network, with nodes representing micromarkets that balance local supply and demand and edges representing competing firms that produce similar goods. Raw material producers are positioned at the root, ...

This article examines the factors contributing to overtime work in the Russian game industry, based on a quantitative survey of 157 professionals. The findings indicate that overtime is influenced not only by employees’ intrinsic motivation but also by organizational working conditions. The most significant factor is pressure on performance, whereas perceived control over time is ...

Operationalization of the theory of meaning in inter-social communications and its applications
Ivanova I., Scientometrics 2025 Vol. 130 No. 6 P. 3109–3126
This paper reviews research topics that I have had the fortune to explore with Loet Leydesdorff over the past decade. What initially seemed to be different areas of research have eventually been brought together into a unified framework for a theory of meaning in inter-social communication. The sociology of communication laid the foundations for a ...

Influence of Realistic Perception and Surroundings on Qualitative Results in Automated and Connected Vehicle Simulation
Stepanyants V., Romanov A., IEEE Access 2024 Vol. 12 P. 43721–43733
Automated and connected vehicles are emerging in the market. Currently, solutions are being proposed to use these technologies for cooperative driving, which can significantly improve road safety. Vehicular safety applications must be tested before deployment. It is challenging to verify and validate them in the real world. Therefore, simulation is used for this purpose. Modeling ...

Annotation. Modern interdisciplinary approaches to understanding human creative activity are discussed, and the multiversal approach is taken as the central one here. The multiversality of creativity means the multiplicity of worlds of a creative personality, the production of many meanings by him, the ambiguity and alternative ways of developing thoughts, reframing existing knowledge, the speed ...
