The relationship between culture and media: modern trends in the university educational courses
Two ways of the meeting of media and culture in the frame of higher educational courses are in the focus of this essay. Shortly, one of these ways implies such correlation of media and culture at which culture is secondary while media are primary. Culture is a “product” of media. This approach considers different influences of media on individual and society by means of culture, which is created by these media. So, media act as the factor which is previous in respect of culture and primary in relation to it. Another approach, on the contrary, considers culture as primary in relation to media. Media thus play the role of method of fixation, study and preservation of culture, as well as method of receiving, representation and interpretation of knowledge about culture.
