Bridging Horizons: Social Entrepreneurship in Malaysia and Russia
Recognising the transformative power of social entrepreneurship, the Laboratory for Reputation Management in Education (RepLab) at HSE University Saint Petersburg and the ACT Lab at Azman Hashim International Business School (AHIBS), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), jointly established the Satellite Laboratory for Social Entrepreneurship in 2023. This collaborative initiative aims to explore and analyse the dynamics of social entrepreneurship across diverse cultural and institutional contexts, with the goal of deepening our understanding of how social enterprises operate, grow, and maximise their impact on a global scale.
Since its founding, the Satellite Lab has conducted in-depth comparative research, initially centred on the contrasting yet vibrant environments of Russia and Malaysia. These studies provide a comprehensive overview of the social enterprise (SE) landscape, encompassing legal frameworks, ecosystem development, and strategies that enable SEs to generate tangible social outcomes. The findings highlight how social enterprises address local socio-economic challenges and make meaningful contributions to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in their respective countries.
This volume, Bridging Horizons: Social Entrepreneurship in Malaysia and Russia, presents the key insights from this innovative international collaboration. It showcases how research partnerships between seemingly different contexts can yield valuable mutual learning and affirm the global relevance of social entrepreneurship as a force for inclusive and sustainable development.
