In this monograph a sea trilogy “To the Ends of the Earth” is regarded in the context of the Western-European art. In particular, it reveals the influence of different world famous works of art on the sea trilogy, the significance of this novel at the end of 20th century and the way the book influences the works of cinematography and literature of the modern epoch.
In this research the emphasis is made on a classical symbol of the Western-European art – the ship that has been revealed in the most successful way in one of the most prominent novels of the last years of the second millennium – in the sea trilogy by William Golding. The ship depicted by the English writer has interwoven various artistic images this or that way connected with the sea, and represents a universal symbol out of a particular time or place.
