The book is to be used as a supplement to an Upper Intermediate course in General English aiming to help students master the active vocabulary and grammar structures of six Units in the course book «Upstream Upper Intermediate» by Bob Obee –Virginia Evans (1, 2, 3, 6, 8 and 9). All translation exercises are provided with keys.
The article describes the key features of writing skills within the course of English for specific purposes implemented on the basis of blended learning. Teaching writing is considered to be a relevant and inseparable component of foreign language teaching, which has a great influence on students' competences. Writing text genres which are useful to the majority of engineering students are determined. In respect that the share of students' self study increases, a set of exercises including preparatory and communicative as well as a special unit of writing exercise tips and comments were worked out. Such a set of exercises being used in an ESP blended learning model, writing skills are formed and developed efficiently.
The international standards of academic writing introduced into English language teaching present both cognitive and linguistic challenges for Russian undergraduate students. The article aims to investigate how Internet resources can contribute to the second language students’ academic writing. We explore the functions of Corpora and other web resources as important tools in the process of writing a research paper in English. The articles explores the potential of the Internet resources for brainstorming, developing the strategy of research, searching and selecting literature sources, providing language data, creating a learner’s own corpus, bringing evidence of typical patterns in academic contexts, proofreading. The conclusion is made about the important role of the Internet for self-study and independent language skills development.
