2014.

How does Internet Research influence public processes and academic life? What key methods and subjects comprise Internet Studies? To answer these questions, we systematically rate Internet studies by key research centers from different countries. The aims of our project are to collect information about basic research structures engaged in Internet studies, and to analyze links between various institutions, research approaches, and thematic priorities in ongoing research.

We have evaluated the academic and public impact of research centers. We base our evaluations upon information about a research center (e.g., its founding date and stakeholders), key persons, and their professional means of disseminating research findings, including organizing conferences and publishing habits. We have also studied the key methods and subjects that are included in the term “Internet Studies” in different countries.

The main objectives for the forthcoming stage of the project are to assess and to rank the political involvement of research centers, investigate the network relations between different centers, and to collect and analyze analytical scenarios for the future development of the Internet, new media and related technologies.
