‘In the Age of Technology, It Is Interesting to Look into the Past and Think about What We Can Take from It
Polina Tabakova decided to apply for a Philology degree at HSE in Nizhny Novgorod because she grew up in Mari El and did not want to move far away from the Russian forests. In an interview for the Young Scientists of HSE University project, she spoke about the genre of the campus novel, the existential drama of Kolobok, and a blackout version of Eugene Onegin.

HSE Scientists Develop Method to Compress Large Language Models Without Losing Quality
Researchers from the AI and Digital Science Institute at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new compression method for large language models such as GPT and LLaMA that reduces their size by 25–36% without additional training or significant loss of accuracy. This is the first approach to use mathematical transformations—specifically, rotations of model weights—to make models more amenable to compression with structured matrices. The study results have been published in ACL Findings 2025. The code is available on GitHub.

HYBRID MEMBRANES BASED ON ZIRCONIUM PHOSPHONATES

МЕМБРАНЫ И МЕМБРАННЫЕ ТЕХНОЛОГИИ, Российская Федерация. 2020. Vol. 2. No. 4. P. 251–255.
Karavanova Y.A., Golubenko D.V., Yaroslavtsev A.B.

Phosphonates with the composition Zr(PO3(CH2)nPh)2 with n = 0, 1, and 3 are synthesized. Hybrid membranes based on an MF-4SK membrane and the synthesized phosphonates are made. The influence of the dopant, its concentration, and synthesis method on the ion-conducting properties of the membranes is studied in comparison with hybrid membranes based on α-zirconium hydrogen phosphate. The reasons for the effect of the dopant on the conducting properties are discussed.

Post-synthetic modification of proton-conducting metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) by loading small molecules capable of generating protons into pores is an efficient approach for developing a new type of material with improved ionic conductivity. Herein, the synthesis, characterization and proton conductivity of a novel electroneutral MOF based on palladium(II) meso-tetrakis(4-(phosphonatophenyl))porphyrinate, IPCE-1Pd, are reported. The exposure of the obtained framework to imidazole ...

Gel-polymer electrolytes based on perfluorinated cation-exchange membranes are promising electrolytes for lithium metal batteries due to the strength and chemical stability of the fluorinated matrix and high values of ionic conductivity and cation transference numbers, which contribute to the suppression of dendrite formation. The present work compares the main characteristics of polymer electrolytes based on ...

Structural mechanism of ionic conductivity of the TRPV1 channel
Trofimov Y. A., Minakov A. S., Krylov N. A. et al., Doklady Biochemistry and Biophysics 2023 Vol. 508 No. 1 P. 1–5
In many types of ion channels, certain internal surface areas of their transmembrane pores are lined with non-polar residues forming a kind of "belts" of hydrophobicity. When a channel resides in a closed/inactivated state, this prevents spontaneous diffusion of water and ions through the membrane. At the same time, when a channel is activated and, ...

Lithium metal batteries are one of the more promising replacements for lithium-ion batteries owing to their ability to reach high energy densities. The main problem limiting their commercial application is the formation of dendrites, which significantly reduces their durability and renders the batteries unsafe. In the present work, we used a single-ion conducting gel polymer electrolyte based on a ...

Membrane materials for energy production and storage
Yaroslavtsev A. B., Стенина И., Golubenko D. V., Pure and Applied Chemistry 2020 Vol. 92 No. 7 P. 1147–1157
Ion exchange membranes are widely used in chemical power sources, including fuel cells, redox batteries, reverse electrodialysis devices and lithium-ion batteries. The general requirements for them are high ionic conductivity and selectivity of transport processes. Heterogeneous membranes are much cheaper but less selective due to the secondary porosity with large pore size. The composition of ...
