‘Hedgehog Versus ‘Relatives: Researchers Measure How the Brain Responds to Unexpected Words During Natural Speech
Russian neurophysiologists, including researchers from HSE University, have demonstrated the feasibility of using event-related fields (ERFs) to study brain activity during natural speech perception. The researchers showed that this approach can be applied not only to individual words but also to continuous speech. Their findings indicate that words whose meanings differ significantly from the preceding context require longer processing times. The study also reveals that the brain processes function words in two stages: first, it identifies their grammatical role and then uses this information to predict the next word. The study has been published in Frontiers in Human Neuroscience.

Scientists Develop Algorithm for More Reliable Processors in Data Centres
Researchers from HSE MIEM and Samara University have developed the LRF-3D algorithm to automatically bypass idle nodes in three-dimensional networks-on-chip. Thanks to its hierarchical architecture, the algorithm outperforms existing solutions in both speed and path accuracy, improving processor reliability for use in data centres, supercomputers, and AI computing. The source code and test results are publicly available.

Summa contra gentiles by Thomas Aquinas was translated in the XIV c. by Demetrios Kydones (1324/5-1397). This translation had a great impact on the Late- and post-Byzantine theology. Chapter 61 «On the Eucharist», book four of Summa, happened to be, through Gennadios Scholarios, one of the sources of the decrees of the anti-Calvinist Orthodox councils of the 17th century. In the preface we made some observations on Kydones choice of Greek translations of Latin terms.

This study examines the most numerous type of construction presented in the Russian Constructicon, namely intensifiers. We studied intensifiers in the context of comparative constructions of inequality like Х bol’še Y‘X is bigger than Y’ –> Х gorazdo bol’še Y‘X is much bigger than Y’. Comparative constructions and intensifiers are usually studied separately since they ...

Particular attention is paid ...

In Russian historiography, a one-sided view of Gennadius Scholarius as an opponent of the union and an «anti-Westerner» is widely presented. Such an «anti-Western» line of reading the history of theology can be traced in Russian historiography of the 20th century, especially after the rediscovery of the legacy of Gregory Palamas and its ideologization as ...

Комментаторская традиция Аристотеля и томизм в поздней Византии: статус деятельного ума (νοῦς ποιητικός) и проблема бессмертия в сочинениях Геннадия II Схолария: общие замечания
Вычеров В. Р., Вестник Православного Свято-Тихоновского гуманитарного университета. Серия 1: Богословие. Философия. Религиоведение 2025 № 119 С. 27–44
The article attempts to partially present and comment on the view of Gennady Scholarius on the question of the status of the active mind (vοῦς ποιητικός) and on the problem of the immortality of the soul. The article begins with a review of the literature and contains two parts: the first reveals the Neoplatonic context of Aristotle’s reception and comments on the topic of the relationship between soul and body in the corpus of works by Gennady Scholarius; the second part gives the Aristotelian-Christian context of the problem under consideration and the rationale for the possible autonomy of soul andbody. The problematic of this topic in relation to Scholarius is not only the present and comment his ideas, but also theidentification of poorly researched sources that he used. The article gives possible influences on the Scholarius throughthe discovery of parallels close in meaning to his ideas, mainly demonstrated through the development of the Aristotle’s commentary tradition. We also consider the conclusion of G. Karamanolis that, according to the opinion of the Scholarius, a reasonable soul is definitely not an entelechy of the body. The article presents fragments in ancient Greek and providestranslations and comments on them. ...

Mikhail Bernatsky, Studia Liturgica 2024 Vol. 54 No. 2 P. 176–206
In this article we demonstrate that the interpretation of the epiclesis of the Byzantine liturgy, contained in the so-called “descriptive” part of the Acta graeca of the Florence Council (1439), is a reinterpretation of Nicholas Cabasilas's anti-Latin argumentation, presented in his “An Explanation of the Divine Liturgy.” This reinterpretation had as its source the explanation of the ...

Мотив смешения вина и воды в поэзии вагантов: генезис и функции
Dolgorukova N., Babenko K., Studia Litterarum 2024 Т. 9 № 3 С. 96–113
Статья посвящена анализу мотива смешения вина и воды в поэзии вагантов. В ходе исследования мы выяснили, что данный мотив не имеет корней в античной литературе, а восходит к святоотеческим толкованиям смешения вина и воды в евхаристической чаше. Эта традиция остается актуальной на протяжении всех Средних веков. Кроме того, в XI в. актуализируются богословские споры о реальном присутствии ...
