The article presents a fragment of the study, the purpose of which was to determine the level of readiness for professional self-determination of schoolchildren from 10 to 17 years old in a school with in-depth study of a certain subject - chemistry. It would be logical to assume that the specification of the educational program of the school (chemical and biological orientation) leaves a certain "imprint" on the professional self-determination of children and adolescents, at least starting from the age of awareness and understanding of oneself for some type of relationship or in some direction of professional activity.

In this context, a research question arises: how does the student's ability to professional self-determination develop during the period of growing up from 10 to 17 years in a "profile" school? To search for answers to the question, a system of diagnostics was used, which includes six different proven methods: from determining the type of future profession and interest in a certain type of work to diagnosing value orientations and professional readiness and, further to career orientations.

The study was carried out as part of the experimental work of school No. 77 of the Petrogradsky district of St. Petersburg in the status of a regional innovation platform on the topic "Designing the possibilities of professional self-determination of students in the convergent information and media space."
