Immunity to Chaos: How Personal Resources Help Us Cope with the Challenges of a Turbulent World
International conflicts, crises and digital overload—the modern world puts our minds to the test every day. Traditional psychology often focuses on the consequences: anxiety, depression, and psychosomatic disorders. But what if we looked at the problem differently—through the lens of the resources that prevent us from breaking down? Psychological immunity is precisely this set of resources. Alena Zolotareva and her group, Psychological Immunity as a Resource for Positive Functioning, are developing an integrative model of this phenomenon, adapting diagnostic tools and preparing for large-scale empirical research. Why do psychologists need to collaborate with medical professionals, and how could their research transform preventive care in clinics and corporations?

‘Balkan Hospitality Opens Doors: Studying Dialects on the Verge of Extinction
You cannot study spoken dialects from books. Instead, you need to go to a village, seek out its elders, and earn the trust of local residents before you can record hours of spontaneous stories. This is how Natalia Muravleva, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities, conducts her research. Her internship in Serbia continued her long-standing study of dialects spoken by Macedonian settlers. In this interview, she discusses how diaspora cultural centres help researchers reach informants, why native speakers need to be interviewed only in their own language (otherwise, as she puts it, they may 'break'), and how a single field season helped her finalise her monograph. She also shares warm memories of autumn in Belgrade and of colleagues with whom grammar can be discussed in three languages at once.

EU sectoral stocks amid geopolitical risk, market sentiment, and crude oil implied volatility: An asymmetric analysis of the Russia-Ukraine tensions

Resources Policy. 2023. Vol. 82. Article 103515.
Bossman A., Gubareva M., Teplova T.

This study examines the asymmetric relationships between EU sectoral stocks and oil, oil implied volatility, geopolitical risk, and market sentiment during turbulent times of geopolitical unrest. In a set of parametric and nonparametric quantile-based techniques, we employ daily data on eleven sectors of economic activity in addition to crude oil prices (WTI) and three sentiment-driven indices tracking the crude oil volatility (OVX), geopolitical risk (GPR), and investor sentiment (VIX) over the period between January 2020 and October 2022. Findings from the causality-in-quantile-means test suggest that the sectoral stock returns from the EU are asymmetrically predicted by WTI, OVX, VIX and GPR. The findings from the quantile regression and quantile-on-quantile regression metrics demonstrate that (i) in bearish periods, EU sectoral stocks could hedge against GPR, (ii) WTI does not serve as a hedge for EU stocks regardless of the sector of economic activity, and (iii) OVX and VIX possess some hedging and safe-haven attributes against EU stocks. These findings have notable implications for market regulation and portfolio management.

Повестка устойчивого развития после 2030 года: возможные развилки
Makarov I. A., Россия в глобальной политике 2026 Т. 24 № 4 (140) С. 164–182

When green is not attractive: energy transition, capital inflows, and environmental outcomes in BRICS economies
Kilinc-Ata N., Warong M. M., SN Business & Economics 2026 Vol. 6 Article 326(2026)
Green transitions are widely expected to attract cleaner capital and accelerate decarbonization; however, emerging-economy evidence increasingly challenges this assumption. This study examines the dynamic relationship between energy transition indicators and capital inflows in BRICS+ economies over the period 1996–2022, explicitly testing the “Green Haven” hypothesis under conditions of global uncertainty. Unlike much of the existing ...

We investigate the time-varying role of Russia in the international causal network of financial stress. The network is derived using the factor-adjusted network estimation for high-dimensional time series (FNETS), which is applied to text-based financial stress indices for 66 countries. Динамическая взаимосвязь объемов торгов и сентимента частных инвесторов российского фондового рынка с Биткоином в периоды внешних шоков
Fayzulin M., Teplova T., Kurkin A., Прикладная эконометрика 2025 Т. 79 С. 99–121
The paper analyses the dynamic connectedness between trading volumes in the Russian stock market and the global cryptocurrency (Bitcoin) market during periods of external shocks (the COVID‑19 crisis and the Russia‑Ukraine conflict) from 2019. Using the TVP‑VAR model and estimates of system variable connectivity, liquidity spillovers (cash flows) are identified between the considered asset classes. For the first time, we analyse the network connectedness of investor sentiment for the most popular Russian stocks and Bitcoin and estimate the role of sentiment in liquidity spillovers. The  results  demonstrate  that  Bitcoin’s  daily  trading  volume  predominantly  acts  as  a  recipient of shocks from the Russian stock market. Meanwhile, the overall coherence in the system was higher during the COVID‑19 crisis period compared to the Special Military Operation (SMO). The study confirms the existence of a correlation between investor sentiment on the Russian stock and cryptocurrency markets. At the beginning of the analyzed period,in 2019, when interest in crypto assets investing began to grow rapidly, this correlation was strongly pronounced. There is a connectedness between two sentiment indices: on the stock market and crypto‑assets. The  intensity  of  the  correlation prevails  in  the  COVID‑19  inception  period,  significantly  exceeding the level observed in the SMO period. This sentiment metrics behaviour may imply adaptation of the Russian stock market to external shocks, as well as retail investors’ expectations of short‑term SMO in early 2022. ...

Instrumental variable quantile regression for clustered data
Besstremyannaya G., Golovan S., Econometrics and Statistics 2026 Vol. 37 P. 199–213
The purpose is to enable inference in case of quantile regression with endogenous covariates and clustered data. It is proven that the instrumental variable quantile regression estimator is consistent where there is correlation of errors within clusters, and an asymptotic distribution for the estimator, which may be used for inference for a given quantile τ, is derived. As regards inference based on the entire instrumental ...

Optimization of Multi-Currency Deposit Structure by Two Indicators (Income and Risk) under Uncertainty

A two-criteria vector optimization problem – finding Pareto-optimal solutions in linear systems with interval uncertainty of coefficients – is considered. The problem of resource allocation to multiple activities is investigated. The uncertainty-adjusted income is a bilinear function, linear by strategy under fixed uncertainty and by uncertain parameters under fixed strategy. Guaranteed income is a linear ...
