Раскрытие информации о влиянии пандемии covid-19 на финансовую отчетность компаний как условие ее транспарентности
Subject. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic caused irreparable damage to most domestic companies, while there is a crushing decline in investment. One of the factors that can counter this unfavorable trend may be the submission of transparent IFRS reporting, which discloses in detail information about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on all areas of the company's activities.
Objectives. Systematization and assessment of the quality of information on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the performance of Russian companies presented in their IFRS statements published in 2020.
Methods. The research is based on the following methods:
- content analysis, which allowed us to quantify qualitative data; to identify the frequency of text fragments related to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the results of companies ' activities;
- quantitative and systematic analysis, which made it possible to integrate private results obtained for individual Russian companies;
- grouping data, identifying logical relationships, formulating critical comments and conclusions.
Results. In the theoretical part of the article, the need for disclosure of reporting information on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the activities of companies is justified and the directions of such disclosures are determined. These include disclosure of the company's going concern; information on the occurrence of additional income or expenses; information on expected credit losses; data on the results of revaluation of inventories and testing of non-current assets for impairment.
In the empirical part of the article, the quality of disclosure of this information in the interim IFRS reporting of 50 domestic public companies in 12 areas of economic activity is assessed.
Conclusions and Relevance. All of the companies surveyed have disclosed to some extent the impact of the pandemic on their results of operations and/or financial position in the explanations to the financial statements, but the overall quality of such disclosures should be considered low. Low quality of disclosures was found in companies that are in the first places of the rating, compiled on the basis of statistics of exchanges "TOP-100 largest companies in Russia by capitalization - 2020". At the same time, not all companies in the sample were affected by the pandemic. Some companies have reflected in their IFRS statements the positive impact of COVID-2019 on the development of e-commerce, and as a result, on the increase in sales.
